Prostate Defense

Prostate Defense is a nutritional supplement designed to help with problems related to an inflammed prostate. After watching the infomercial several times I've concluded the infomercial should be put in the category of "helpful". It informs men about the common problem related to aging and the prostate. Much of the information presented is accurate and the product probably would be effective for many people. However Prostate Defense is overpriced. Better quality supplements with more helpful compounds can be found for a cheaper price. Furthermore I think it would be prudent for any man experiencing the problems of an inflammed prostate to see a physician first to rule out prostate cancer. (Don't get too alarmed prostate problems are common as men age and usually it is not related to cancer). This is accomplished by your doctor ordering a simple blood test known as a "PSA".

I called the 1-800 number provided on the Prostate Defense infomercial and was shocked to learn they are selling the product for $49.95 a month and only if you agree to their "auto ship" program. This means they bill your credit card every month unless you tell them to stop. I personally don't like this. It seems like everytime I purchase something like that it always becomes a hassle to cancel it.

OK lets get to the review. Prostate Defense contains the following ingredients:

Vitamin E
Zinc
Selenium
Saw Palmetto
Pumpkin Seed Oil
Pygeum Africanum Bark Extract
Lycopene

I will show you further down the page where you can purchase an alternative product that contains everything found in Prostate Defense along with 21 other compounds. It will also cost you less! Let's first start with some major things I feel are missing from the Prostate Defense supplement.

Right off the bat a substance known as beta-sitosterol is not found in the formulation. Beta sitosterol is the miraculous substance found in Saw Palmetto, Pumpkin Seed and Pygeum Africanum bark. However, the concentration of beta sitosterol in these herbs is very small. Any good prostate supplement should contain this substance because it is reported to be hundreds if not thousands of times more potent than the other herbs. In Europe, beta-sitosterol plays a major role in herbal therapy especially for the treatment of prostate problems. How many people will try Prostate Defense and abandon the whole idea because it was not near powerful enough to make any difference?

Another substance missing in Prostate Defense is Stinging Nettle root extract. This substance has been extensively studied in human clinical trials as a treatment for symptoms of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). BPH is the medical term for an inflammed prostate. Anyway, Stinging Nettle extract have been shown to help relieve symptoms compared to placebo both by themselves and when combined with other herbal medicines.

Prostate Defense also lacks a substance known as Broccoli Extract. It is highly suspected this substance may prevent and even effectively treat prostate cancer. Human prostate cancer cells responded to treatment with sulforaphane in the form of broccoli sprout extracts, showing dramatic increases in their Phase 2 protective enzymes. Dr. James D. Brooks, Urology Department, Stanford University, suggests broccoli sprouts, a rich natural source of sulforaphane, might be appropriate for use in intervention trials in humans. If you're going to take a supplement every day, why not take one that includes something to prevent prostate cancer? Afterall it is a leading cause of death in men.

Green tea is another substance not found in Prostate Defense. In a study involving 130 prostate cancer patients and 274 hospital controls, men drinking the most green tea were found to have an 86% reduced risk of prostate cancer compared, to those drinking the least. Again, if you're going to take a supplement to help with your prostate problems anyway, why not take something that will help prevent cancer of the prostate?

There is one thing every consumer needs to understand. No matter how promising or exciting this infomercial makes you feel, it will still come down to the substances in the product that will make the difference. Prostate Defense contains nothing new that quality prostate substances haven't contained for years. Prostate Defense, in my opinion, is a poorly designed supplement that is overpriced. Below is a link to where you can purchase cheaper and better alternative. You should be aware that I do earn a small profit when you purchase this alternative product. I hope this review was helpful. Best of luck to you.
